Track of the Week: Irma… Global Grooves and Rabbit Holes

IMRA takes this weeks Track Of The Week (March 2026) with Check this out. PartyLine Perth Interviews her to find out more about her journey to this moment

After making her debut in the 2024 Yourshot competition, Irma is ditching the charts to build high-energy sets fueled by Latin percussion, Guaracha, and Jersey Club.

For Irma Kapic (aka Irma), the DJing journey has been a rapid ascent. Born in Germany to Bosnian parents and raised in Perth, she officially entered the scene via the Yourshot competition in 2024 before stepping up to DJ professionally at the start of 2025.

If she had to describe her sonic vibe? “A 3am warehouse in Spain or Portugal,” she says.

While she originally started out playing intense, hard techno, her sound has rapidly evolved. Today, she is leaving the standard techno bangers behind in favour of something much more rhythm-focused.

We sat down with Irma to discuss going down Bandcamp rabbit holes, blending global genres, and her brand new bass-heavy release, Check This Out.

🕳️ Rabbit Holes Over Charts

When it comes to sourcing music, Irma doesn’t care what’s trending on the Top 100.

“I spend a lot of time on Bandcamp and Soundcloud. I dig through smaller labels and artists producing more global and percussive sounds,” she explains. Drawn heavily to music coming out of Latin America and Europe, as well as breaks and jungle, her curation process is organic: “I go down rabbit holes rather than following charts.”

That deep digging translates into highly eclectic, high-energy sets. Currently, she’s experimenting with blending Guaracha, Jersey Club, Breaks, Footwork, and bass-driven sounds to keep the dancefloor moving from start to finish.

📵 Be Present

With a sound designed to make people move, it’s no surprise that Irma’s biggest pet peeve is the glow of a screen.

“I’d love to see less phones on the dancefloor,” she notes. “The best moments happen when people are actually present.”

It’s an industry that can be intimidating for newcomers, but Irma stays grounded with a powerful mantra: “Do yourself a huge favour and start believing that nothing is too good for you. You deserve everything good in life.” For Irma, it’s a vital daily reminder. “It resonates with me because it’s a reminder to back yourself, especially in an industry where it’s easy to doubt yourself and wonder where you fit in.” To get into the right headspace before stepping behind the decks, she always takes a moment of alone time to calm her nerves and center her focus.

🔊 The Track: Check This Out

Our Track of the Week is Irma’s Check This Out.

Produced using Ableton and Serum, the track is built on layered drums, raw bass, and heavy 2000s energy. The biggest struggle in the studio? “Finding a balance between making something that hits hard but still feels like my own sound,” she admits.

The breakthrough moment came when she started manipulating the vocals… chopping them up and using them to build their own unique, driving rhythm within the track.
