Lick’n’Beat… Engineering the Immersive Dancefloor

INSIIIDE interview with Lick n Beat From Perth with PartyLine Perth March 2026

Tired of the scene chasing “hype” over emotion, Guillaume Schweitzer is building a sweet, high-energy universe where the crowd, not the DJ, is the main event.

For Guillaume Schweitzer, the founder of Lick’n’Beat, a party is only successful if the energy flows completely between the crowd and the music.

Active in the Perth scene for just over a year, Guillaume has quickly carved out a distinct lane by contrasting a “playful, glossy aesthetic” with sounds that are groovy, bouncy, and undeniably hard-hitting. “We build our lineups around a balance of sweetness and intensity,” he explains.

We sat down with the Lick’n’Beat founder to discuss his frustration with the Perth scene chasing hype, why ambitious production sometimes fails, and how a rave in Thailand completely changed his perspective on crowd connection.

🇹🇭 The Thailand Epiphany

Guillaume’s ultimate goal is immersion, a word that anchors everything Lick’n’Beat does. This philosophy was heavily influenced by a specific night out in Thailand.

“The DJ wasn’t even highlighted… placed off to the side, and there was no central focal point,” he recalls. “The crowd was fully immersed in the music and the atmosphere, moving as one, completely absorbed in the sound. The energy was incredible, and it was a perfect example of how powerful a fully connected crowd can be.”

That erasure of the “DJ as a god” complex fuels his current controversial take on the Perth industry: “Perth has amazing DJs and producers, but too often the scene chases hype instead of building an immersive, emotional experience,” he notes. “I’d love to see more events where the visuals, music, and crowd energy all come together as one.”

🚧 Balancing Vision and Reality

Creating a fully immersive universe isn’t cheap, and it isn’t easy. Guillaume admits that balancing his creative vision with operational constraints like budgets and logistics is his biggest hurdle.

Sometimes, the ambition goes too far. “We once explored an event concept that was very ambitious in terms of production and atmosphere, but it quickly became clear that it was too complex to execute properly within our constraints,” he admits.

Instead of forcing a compromised version, the crew stepped back. “It taught us to stay focused on delivering a strong, coherent experience rather than overcomplicating things.”

🌊 Next Up: Fifty Shades of Noises

That refined, hyper-focused vision will be on full display at their upcoming event, ‘Fifty Shades of Noises’.

Taking over Port Beach Brewery on March 28th, Guillaume promises a complete transformation of the space. “The dancefloor transforms into a wave of pink, rising pressure, and pure noise,” he teases, hinting at unexpected moments and surprises throughout the night.

It’s exactly the kind of boundary-pushing event he believes Perth needs more of. Looking ahead, he predicts that new underground venues opening across the city will finally give crews like his the freedom to create the unique experiences they envision.
