Track of the Week: Fräulein Noir… From Berlin to The Bush

FRÄULEIN NOIR / Track Of The Week / PartyLine Collective / Perth DJ / Driving Techno

How a classical musician got “stuck” in Perth during the pandemic and decided to bring the cinematic sounds of Berlin to the Australian underground.

Sometimes, the best things in life are accidents.

For Fräulein Noir, the plan was simple: visit Australia for work, stay short-term, and head home to Germany. Then 2020 happened. The borders shut, the world paused, and what started as being “stuck” in Perth turned into the birth of a new artistic project.

Originally from Berlin, techno wasn’t just a genre she discovered; it was the soundtrack to her life. Now, she is blending that innate understanding of German club culture with her background as a classical pianist and saxophonist to create something truly cinematic.

Her debut track, “Dark Lullaby,” has claimed our Track of the Week. It is a perfect encapsulation of her sound: a tension between serenity and darkness, designed for the late-night hours.

We sat down with Fräulein Noir to talk about her Burning Man debut, the “Boiler Room” energy of Lucky Presents, and why “training your ear” beats any digital shortcut.

🎹 The Classical Techno Architect

It is a common trope that DJs are “failed musicians,” but Fräulein Noir is the opposite.

“I grew up in Berlin, so techno was everywhere… but I also play piano and saxophone,” she explains. “Music has always been a constant for me. DJing felt like a natural extension of that—a way to translate everything I grew up with, from club culture to musical training, into my own voice.”

This training bleeds into her selection. She isn’t just looking for a drop; she is looking for “acoustic elements like strings and choirs” that bring an orchestral depth to the dancefloor.

🌑 Defining “Fräulein Noir”

Her alias is more than just a name; it’s a mission statement.

Fräulein is German for ‘Miss’, and Noir is a genre defined by its dark, moody, and atmospheric aesthetic,” she says.

It represents the duality of her sets. She weaves trance-like breakdowns with driving techno, creating a balance between “serenity and darkness.” It’s music that feels emotional and ethereal, yet still powerful enough to move a rig.

🔥 From The Bush to The Playa

Since settling in Perth, Fräulein Noir has embraced the unique Western Australian experience of playing in the bush… specifically citing the Enchanted Forest Stage run by Splooge at Smashed Avo Festival as a favourite haunt.

But her highlight reel is already international.

Burning Man 2025 was unreal,” she recalls. “I played a b2b with my partner out on the deep playa… being surrounded by the lights, art, and parties in every direction is something else entirely.”

Locally, her standout moment was supporting Holy Priest for Lucky Presents: “The Boiler Room–style setup was next level. It genuinely felt like the crowd, the music, and I became one.”

🎵 The Track: Dark Lullaby

Her winning track, “Dark Lullaby,” is a sonic snapshot of her journey.

“At its core are beautiful, dark, mysterious vocals that sing a lullaby—but the track is crafted so you’re never quite sure if it’s comforting or haunting.”

Layering driving basslines with strings and piano, it’s a track that demands a good sound system (preferably Funktion-One, her system of choice) and a crowd willing to close their eyes and get lost.

👂 The Golden Rule

In an era of sync buttons and visual waveforms, Fräulein Noir’s advice to new DJs is grounded in her classical roots. Her golden rule? Ignore the screen.

“Train your ear and learn how to beatmatch,” she advises. “Everything else will fall into place.”
