Track of the Week: LUST… High-Speed DnB and the Pursuit of Perfection

Lust Interview with PartyLine Collective as he takes track of the week April 2026 / Drum and Bass

Blending heavy dancefloor rollers with jump-up energy, LUST is curating sets that feel like a high-speed car chase.

For Perth-based DJ Marco, better known as LUST, the name says it all. It represents a constant, burning desire to be the absolute best version of himself, both inside the DJ booth and out.

After spending the last three years honing his craft, he has truly shifted into gear over the past 12 months. If he had to describe the sonic vibe he brings to the decks? “It would either be something sci-fi like Tron or a car chase scene from an action film,” he explains.

We caught up with LUST to talk about his intense preparation methods, why he hates local cliques, and his heavy new Drum and Bass release, Down On It.

🏎️ Navigating the Sound

LUST is currently in a testing phase, constantly refining exactly what he wants his signature sound to be.

“A lot of the tracks I used to play were heavily dancefloor drum and bass driven,” he notes. “Now it’s a mix of both the heavier side of dancefloor and a bit of Jump-Up for taste. I’m still trying to navigate what I really like.”

To build that high-octane sound, he spends hours crate-digging through labels like Viper Recordings, Dark Machine Records, and Wobbles & Waffles. His goal is to find “atypical tracks” that the crowd hasn’t heard yet, injecting fresh variety between his absolute favorite heavy-hitters.

🛑 Community Over Cliques

When asked about his hottest take on the Perth scene, LUST keeps it straight to the point: he loves the community-driven events and support, but he absolutely hates the cliques.

His advice for newcomers trying to break through the noise? “As cliché as it sounds, keep going. You might not be where you want to be right now, but perseverance and knocking on the right doors will get you there. Just have fun with it… we’re all here to enjoy music and be a part of a community that celebrates the same thing.”

📋 Prepare to Fail

While some DJs prefer to free-style based on the crowd, LUST lives by a strict mantra: “Fail to prepare or prepare to fail.”

Before stepping up to a massive system, he crafts a deliberate journey. “I usually set prep for 99% of things because I’m very big on having structure,” he admits. He starts by grabbing a core handful of tracks suited for the set time, and meticulously builds the car-chase energy outwards from there. Once the structure is locked in, a pre-gig drink helps settle the nerves, allowing him to focus entirely on reading the room.

🔊 The Track: Down On It

Our Track of the Week is LUST’s Down On It.

A pure, adrenaline-fueled Drum and Bass weapon. Fast-paced, heavy, and undeniably built for the warehouse, it perfectly captures that late-night, sci-fi action movie energy he strives for in his live sets.
