Mitch Acomply built a globally recognized record label before he ever threw a party. Now, he’s bringing the true sound of deep dubstep back to Perth’s underground.
For Mitch Acomply, the numbers don’t matter. Not the ticket sales, not the Instagram algorithms, and certainly not whatever the rest of the Perth scene is chasing.
As the founder of After Dark Music (ADM), his focus is singular: Bassweight.
Active in the local scene for 16 years, Mitch is a veteran who remembers the strict vinyl nights and the early days of DnB before it went mainstream. But his true awakening happened in 2010 when the legendary production duo Kryptic Minds released their One Of Us LP on Swamp81, cementing his love for deep 140bpm dubstep.
In 2015, he launched ADM. What started as a local project burgeoned into a globally respected label.
“When it comes to booking artists, I take no influence from what others are doing,” Mitch states. “I book accordingly to the sound I enjoy… and do my best to support deep dubstep internationals.”
We sat down with the ADM founder to discuss his global roster, the issue with “cheese” in the local scene, and why bridging the gap between Perth’s old-school dons and the next generation is crucial to the culture.

🌍 A Global Label First
Unlike most local promoters who start with a venue and try to build a brand, ADM operated as a record label first.
Forged strictly at 140 beats per minute, the label boasts a massive back catalogue supported by underground authorities like FatKidOnFire, Deep Tempo, and Infernal Sounds. His global mindset means Mitch is constantly collaborating with heavyweights like Mikrodot, 11th Hour, Tetrad, and Chad Dubz.
“My mindset has been more on the global focus and working with artists around the globe,” he explains. This approach allows him to bypass local scene politics and operate entirely on his own terms.

🔊 Cutting Through The “Cheese”
Mitch respects other promoters, but he doesn’t hold back on his assessment of the current climate.
“I feel the ‘cheese’ is oversaturated in the scene here in Perth,” he notes, pointing to a culture that often prioritizes pretty video reels and following trends over sonic depth. “When I host an event, my main focus isn’t about numbers and sales, it’s quality and creating an intimate space over quantity.”
That intimate quality relies heavily on the crowd. His ultimate vibe-killer? “Staunch, rude, highly strung, and stupidly drunk people… Zero time for bad behaviour.”

🤝 Bridging the Generations
When ADM does throw an event, the curation is intentional. Mitch deliberately books a spread of older Perth OG DJs alongside the newer generation, a formula that peaked at their recent 10th Anniversary party featuring Mystic State.
He also champions local 140 and halftime artists through ADM’s ‘SUB:MERGED’ series, fostering community through showcases on RTRFM92.1 and Freocast.
“Bringing out the dons who were big back in the day, and exposing the next generation to some of the foundational founders within the Perth scene is a great feeling,” he says.
🔮 What’s Next?
Having already brought out heavy-hitters like Ternion Sound and Split Dubstep in 2024, Mitch hints that ADM’s next move involves “more interstate connections.” Having recently partnered with Adelaide’s Wavecult collective, the groundwork is already laid.
Until then, the focus remains where it always has: subsonics, rhythm, and audio textures.
