Profile
Ownlife – 2025 WAM Electronic Song of the Year winner and self-produced Perth dance/pop act – continues to carve out a space in Australia’s scene with his new dance/synth pop EP, Close Disconnect. The EP builds on a wave of momentum following support slots on Newport’s Australian headline tour across Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, as well as two previous shows supporting What So Not and a slot supporting Grammy-nominated DJ/songwriter Will Clarke.
At just 20, Ownlife made the leap from singer-songwriter to dance music, and began performing it live. His sophomore EP, Close Disconnect, explores ego death, burnout, and the peace that comes from losing yourself in the act of creation. Sonically, the project pulls from the worlds of artists like RÜFÜS DU SOL, Sumner, Fred again.., Porter Robinson, and 2hollis. Uniquely among producers, Ownlife sings on most of his tracks, adding a personal touch to both his productions and live DJ sets.
His debut EP Cry Dance leaned into the nostalgia of 2000s dance music, blending it with modern house and garage. With Close Disconnect, he pushes into something more self-aware, more sonically expansive, and even more emotive.
